PE Games – Bowling Ideas

Here are some interesting bowling ideas
for grades K-8. You can use this in a bowling unit, or when you’re doing rolling, and you need a
bunch of different equipment including those plastic pins or cones. Here we’re going to see four different
ideas and hopefully you can use something. The first one I like to call ‘Obstacle Bowling’. You will set up your pins and have your first person in the group step up to bowl (you can of course have different groups througout the gym). And you place an obstacle – you can use an exercise mat or whatever you have to create some sort of obstacle that they have to
dodge. Instead of just rolling this is a little bit more advanced. So that’s obstacle bowling! Next one is ‘blindfold bowling’ so again you
set up your pins and you have groups. The first person is lined up and ready to
bowl and they will have to wear a blindfold! Maybe if they’re in a small group then their teammates can help direct them in the right way and because they are blindfolded they actually get a good sense of their motion (kinesthetic awareness). When they can’t see they get to feel how the motion works. The next one is ‘Scooter Bowling’ and it’s a little bit of fun here. So you set up the pins and instead of using a bowling ball, one of the students will sit on a scooter. A couple other students will
push that student (do this safely). They can do a little bit a run-off if they want
and release at some point, pushing the student into the pins. And they take turns doing that. Last idea today is something called ‘team
bowl’ where you have a little section and you divide it in half. You will have two
teams against each other. Just set up 1 pin on each side, and have a goalie for each team, and a couple other roamers. Throw a few balls in there and
basically they have to stay on their own half and they keep rolling the balls, trying to knock over the other teams pin. That’s it for this idea, hopefully you can use something here!
