It’s All in the Hips at the Drive Shack in Raleigh | North Carolina Weekend | UNC-TV

[soft music] – {Rick} Raleigh’s newest
entertainment complex is centered around golf. But its target audience
might be all of the entourage that golfers have the
potential to bring with them. Spouses, children, friends. [people cheering] Golf skills are encouraged
here, but they are optional. – A lot of people think that if they haven’t swung a club
they can’t come to the venue and that’s not the case at all. We have more
non-golfers than golfers that come to the venue, cause
it’s all about having fun. We offer a little
bit for everyone. We just signed up for
our Winter Social League that starts in February. We sold out in three days
so super high demand. – French fries. – [Veronica] We have
multiple lounges, bars, interactive gaming
and arcade area. – [Rick] And, all of those
are good places to hang out, if you need to
wait for your bay, or luxury suite to open up. Each bay is first
come first serve with seating and golf
for up to six people. With 96 bays, there is capacity here
for more than 500 people to be in play at one time. And since opening
in August of 2019, Drive Shack has been
at full capacity quite a bit at peak hours. So, here’s how the golf works. One person hits from
the Tee Box at a time, while the rest of
the group is free to watch where the ball
travels on the range, or on the instant replay screen. It’s also possible, you could take advantage
of the room service or watch any one of
the more than 300 TV’s that are slathered everywhere,
you might possibly look. While it’s possible
to simply hit balls and practice your game, the interactive games are
just too cool to ignore. Even if you thought you
were not a golf enthusiast. – I never really
touched a golf club, prior to working at Drive Shack and absolutely fell
in love with the game. I did think you had to be
this professional golfer, and you don’t. It’s really just about coming
in, playing at your own pace. We have a dart game
that’s my favorites. And it’s actually with golf
versus the actual darts. And, I’m very competitive, so I love coming out with
my friends and my family on the weekends and just
socializing with everyone. – [Rick] Drive Shack
keeps a number of leagues and programs running. And holds special events
frequently throughout the year. And that’s 363 days a year, from mornings,
until late at night. There’s no time, and no weather that
is bad for golf, in this 65,000 square foot
climate controlled venue. – We are all-weather. We do have heaters
along the bays and you can turn it up
and be super toasty, even when it’s snowing or
raining or bad weather out. – [Rick] Serious golfers
who don’t have the budget to fly to play the
world’s great golf courses will appreciate one of the
niftier high tech features at Drive Shack. That’s a chance
to virtually play The Royal and Ancient Golf
Club at St Andrews in Scotland. The oldest club in the world. In between darts
and monster games that might be fun for
the date night crowd. The enthusiast can still get
in a serious round of golf, when necessary. [soft music] – [Deborah] Drive Shack is at
