How Much Does Ear Pinning Cost?

so today we’re going to talk about otoplasty which is basically reshaping the ear so for some people their ears are more prominent or they stick out more and may have heard terms like Dumbo ear or some of those things and basically with permanent sutures internally we can shape the ear so it doesn’t stick out so much and the typical cost for an otoplasty procedures anywhere between three and seven thousand dollars and it can be done under general anesthesia or it can even in some cases be done awake what a patient can expect when they come in for a consultation regarding otoplasty is we will sit down and kind of look in the mirror that’s what I find to be the most useful and most patients that are considering otoplasty they know what they want you know they can tell you I want to have this part bent back a little bit over here or I want it you know more in the lower part or my that your lobe part is too big so they have a pretty good idea and a lot of times I’ll try to draw a picture too and show them you know what I think is possible or what’s not but a lot of times holding a mirror and kind of flexing and bending and showing where the different points of Correction are is the most useful and then that’s when you have to talk to regarding costs regarding what sort of anesthesia and stuff will be done and if the patient is amenable at that time they can actually schedule their surgical procedure and our consultant will give them an exact price you know based on all those factors that I talked about to give them an exact number of what they can expect and they can even tell you what dates are available that way you can schedule it on a certain day if you have one in mind so some of the things that affect the cost of otoplasty probably the biggest cost is going to be whether the patient wants to go to sleep or whether they’re going to do it awake and if it’s a if it requires more correction so it’s more of a procedure the surgeon may actually require that the patient goes to sleep and just doing that now you’re in the operating room you have to add anesthesia fees we have to pay an anesthesia provider and all that kind of stuff that can add you know a few thousand dollars on and sometimes that’s up to the patient and sometimes it’s up to the doctor and you know it’s a joint discussion other things that affect costs are going to be you know the type of Surgery surgical facility that you choose to have your procedure done and of course you know the doctors qualifications and there experience with the procedure another factor that’s going to influence the cost of an otoplasty is how long is going to take so all otoplasty are not created equal sometimes we’re putting in one or two stitches at the top just to lightly bend the ear back and that’s it and that case may take 30 minutes if we’re just doing one ear or it may take an hour if we’re doing both and sometimes we’re removing cartilage we’re reshaping cartilage making incisions in front of the ear and behind the ear that can be a two or three-hour operation especially we’re doing both ears and it’s a hard one or or just a longer case so the longer you’re in the operating room the more expensive the surgery is going to be for obvious reasons it just uses more resources and more of the surgeons time and so that’s why it’s a very case-by-case basis you know that’s why it’s such a broad range a very simple otoplasty would be a few thousand dollars one that’s more complex and it’s going to be doing both ears at the same time that price could easily be doubled something that patients may want to think about when they’re deciding based on cost is that plastic surgery is one of those things that you really have to be cautious about deciding on cost for obvious reasons but if it’s too good to be true it might be too good to be true it may be a doctor that’s not board certified or maybe isn’t even a real plastic surgeon it could be operating in a facility that’s not accredited and so those are you know kind of the hard questions to ask during your consultation but those are things that you definitely want to inquire about and then there’s some costs associated with garments you know so there there are some dressings that would require after surgery to help hold the ear against the head and really to help you keep you from hitting it with your hand while you’re sleeping and stuff like that some practices may charge you for that and others won’t so those rather you know things to consider I’m asking whenever you go to eat your plastic surgeon for the first time go ahead and hit the like button if you enjoyed this video and subscribe to the Austin Weston YouTube channel to stay up to date with the latest in cosmetic surgery for more information on the Austin Western center visit our website at austin-weston.com or click the link in the description below
