CGRundertow BOWLING WIZARDS for iPad Video Game Review

So, uh…bowling…with wizards. Well, of
course. This is a game called Bowling Wizards. It’s
about bowling wizards…as in wizards who bowl…as in “What Condition My Condition
Was In.” Not like, a receptacle for breakfast cereals. This is all so complicated. Bowling Wizards is a free game available in
the App Store…or at least, the first six levels of the first world are free. The other
four worlds and all fifty of the game’s levels, which includes the rest of the first
world, can be purchased in-app for the price of two dollars. But will you be compelled
enough by the free levels to pay for the rest? I don’t know. Depends how you feel about
bowling. With wizards. So the story—and yes, there’s a story—goes
that the world of wizards is in a bit of a pickle. There’s an evil wizard who is capturing
these living bowling pins and casting a spell on them. It’s basically possession, so…the
plot thickens. The idea is that if you knock the pins down,
you relieve them of the dark lord’s grasp. This means the general idea is to knock down
as many as possible, but of course, the problem is they’re not exactly in easily accessible
areas. You have to use magic balls that can go in all sorts of directions to reach them. So thank heavens for the magic balls…of
magic. Nonetheless, the game is actually a lot of
fun. You have an array of balls, each with different abilities. And you have to place
your balls on the level in such a way that you can start a chain reaction and successfully
knock over the pins. I’m really not trying to be immature about this, but it’s just
funny to say…chain reaction. You’re also doing this on a timer, so you
have to think pretty quickly. The longer you take, the lower your score, so…you do have
to be quick when situating your balls. Like so many mobile puzzlers, Bowling Wizards
is very simple. But it does offer a surprisingly steep challenge, provided you pay that two
dollar upgrade fee. And for people who like a fun action/puzzler on the go, Bowling Wizards
is at least worth checking out. I guess Gandalf abides.
