Bowlers at a loss after only bowling alley is set to close in Corbin

PLACE TO PRACTICE … AFTER THE ONLY BOWLING ALLEY IN THE AREA … IS EXPECTED TO CLOSE. COACHES AND PARENTS SAY THEY FOUND OUT LAST WEEK … FOREST LANES IN CORBIN … WILL SHUT DOWN BY THE END OF THE MONTH. MANY BOWLERS I TALKED WITH SAY … IT IS A LOSS FOR THE COMMUNITY. PKG NATS Joe Allen says his son Kevin is only in eighth grade, but he’s competing on a high school team … and he bowls a 190 average. SOT UP FULL Joe Allen – Parent – He will bowl on average three- four days a week. That’s his thing to do … he lives, eats, sleeps it. So when the Allen’s found out Forest Lanes in Corbin is scheduled to close … they were naturally upset. Joe plays on a league himself … and Kevin with the Corbin High School bowling team. Forest Lanes is the only place close by for them to play and practice. SOT UP FULL Joe Allen – Parent – We’re heartbroken. We’re heartbroken because now we are either going to have to go to Richmond, Kentucky, Harrogate, Tennessee, or Somerset. Several high schools and colleges in the area used the facility and are now trying to find a new location. The bowling coach for the University of the Cumberlands says … the closure does not affect college teams as much … because their schedule is more flexible. But, he is sad to see it go after becoming close with the owner. SOT UP FULL Kevin Reigle – UC Head Bowling Coach – Roman did everything that we would ever want. He was a fantastic host and proprietor and everybody loved him. He did a lot of great of things for the university and we are very thankful for our time there. There is no official word yet … on why Forest Lanes is closing its doors. But, with bowling season around the corner, parents wonder how the drive … and no “home advantage” will impact the teams. SOT UP FULL Joe Allen – Parent – It’s going to make a difference, just a lack of practices during the week. It would affect them. I’m sure. After more than 50 years in operation, we are told the bowling alley will close by the end of August. ANGELA CAM 3 WE REACHED OUT TO THE OWNER OF THE BOWLING ALLEY FOR COMMENT. HE NEVER RETURNED OUR CALLS. STEVE
