Blinn Volleyball with Coach Mader and Setter Kaaihue

[Host Tara Dryer] Welcome to buccaneersports.com. Today, we have Head Coach Kalie Mader and sophomore center Kylee Kaaihue. The
Buccaneers are getting ready to open their season opener on Tuesday at Temple
College. And so Coach Mader, I want to start with you. Blinn Volleyball has four
returning starters this season. Can you elaborate on what their experience will
add to the team? [Coach Mader speaking] I think the biggest thing that sophomores add to the team is
their perspective. I think that everything they experienced as freshmen
have given them some vision as to who they want to become and how they can get
there and so that perspective is the biggest advantage they bring to us. [Host Tara Dryer] And Kylie, as one of the returning four players, how do you think your experience
from last year will contribute to your upcoming season? [Kylee Kaaihue speaking] Last year, I’ve grown a
lot and I matured on and off the court and I’ve come to realize the importance
of unity, not only the coach and player connection, but the player to player
connection as a team. [Host Tara Dryer] And Coach Mader, Blinn Volleyball will face a variety teams
before kicking off conference this year. On September 5th, they’ll start
Conference against Wharton. Are you excited to see how the nine incoming
freshmen and returners will come together on the court? [Coach Mader speaking] Absolutely. Absolutely, our conference schedule is pretty intense
and pretty tough and so it’ll show us a lot about who we are and who we need to
become. [Host Tara Dryer] What are you looking forward to the most about the pre-conference season ? [Kylee Kaaihue] I’m excited to showcase all of our hard work that we’ve been doing these past couple weeks for pre-season and seeing how we can come
together as a team on the court. [Host Tara Dryer] Coach Mader, what do you think this team’s biggest strengths are this season? [Coach Mader] I think our biggest strength would be our willingness to work hard. I think our other biggest strength is our competitive spirit so I think those two things I’m excited to see where they can take us. [Host Tara Dryer]
Kylee, as a freshman you already have experience with the Region 14 Tournament.
What are your goals this season? [Kylee Kaaihue] My ultimate goal of the season is to have an undefeated season and make expansions. [Host Tara Dryer] Coach Mader, last question. The
Buccaneers are obviously known for their postseason success. I’m reading that they’ve
been to the Nationals, won a region championship and have been to regionals
twice. So, do you see this team continue the tradition and maybe even going
further than last season? [Coach Mader] We’re always aiming for that National Tournament. We’re always aiming for the title. I think that we just have to take it one
serve at a time, one game at a time, one point at a time and earn what we deserve. [Host Tara Dryer] Thank you Coach Mader and Kylee Kaaihue for being here. The Buccaneers will kick off their season against Temple College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
