Adapted Bowling Tournament Sponsors New Autism Division

NEXT ON THE RALLY. STATE ADAPTIVE BOWLING. AND THERE IS SOMETHING NEW 17th YEAR. DAVE MCCOY SHOWS US WHY SO MANY PARENTS ARE HAPPY ABOUT IT. HE JUST GETS A CHANCE TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING. I THINK THAT’S IMPORTANT. MATT LOMBARDI IS THE HEAD COACH AT MAPLE GROVE BUT TODAY HE IS A BIG SAINT MICHAEL ALBERTVILLE FAN. THAT’S BECAUSE HIS SON, JOEY, AN 8th GRADER IS ON THE ADAPTIVE BOWLING TEAM COMPETING. THEY LOVE BEING A PART OF THE BOWLING TEAM.
IT IS NEAT FOR THEM. IT IS JUST FUN AND IT IS JUST A GREAT EXPERIENCE. JOEY HAS AUTISM. AND THIS YEAR THERE’S A NEW
DIVISION. CREATED ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS. IT IS GREAT TO BE AROUND KIDS LIKE ME. THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE HAS AN AUTISM SPECTRUM DIVISION AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT. IN ADDITION THE ORIGINAL COGNITIVE AND PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT DIVISION. MINNESOTA IS THE FIRST AND ONLY STATE IN THE NATION WITH AN AUTISM STATE TOURNAMENT. AUTISM SPECTRUM IS ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING AREAS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION IN OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR MEMBER SCHOOLS ASKED THE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE TO SEE IF WE COULD EXPAND MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS. AND THAT’S WHAT IT DOES. IT ALLOWS MORE KIDS TO PARTICIPATE. THIS YEAR THE NEW RECORD 432 KIDS PARTICIPATED IN A DAP BOWLING IN MINNESOTA. IT CONTINUES TO GROW. JOEY IN THE COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT DIVISION LAST YEAR AND MOVED IN TO THE NEW AUTISM
SPECTRUM DIVISION. SOME OF HIS OBSTACLES ARE COGNITIVE AND PHYSICAL AND THIS IS GOOD FOR HIM AND EVEN JUST LITTLE THINGS OF AIMING AT A TARGET AND DOING THINGS, LITTLE THINGS YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED BUT HE IS WORKING ON IT AND HAS A GREAT SPIRIT AND HEART AND ENJOYS IT AND IT IS A GREAT
